Extractables and leachables (E&L) is the term used to describe a wide range of chemical compounds that that can be extracted from, or leached out of, packaging components, like the image shown here. Included in this group are pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and food packaging. Reliable quantification is very important. At certain concentrations, these compounds present a risk of toxicity to the users.
Analysis is traditionally a two-step process: initial screening followed by the target analysis. This can be simplified into a single injection by pairing the Polyarc/FID with the MS, to obtain identification and quantification with one injection.
